Our Mission is to:

1. Restore, preserve, and maintain the Davis Street Southern Pacific passenger/freight depot, a registered historical building by the City of San Leandro, to its original condition.

2. Establish, maintain, and operate a railway museum open for public viewing at specific times as set by the SLHRS.

3. Build and maintain operating model railroad displays.

4. Serve the City of San Leandro and the surrounding communities by participating in community events when possible.

The SLHRS has accomplished these missions by moving the San Leandro Depot from its original location alongside the Southern Pacific (now Union Pacific) tracks and restoring it inside and out.  A small but impressive railroad museum is located inside the depot.  The society has built two model railroad displays that entertain the public through Saturday visiting hours and train shows.  We serve the community by giving railroad safety lectures to 6th graders in the San Leandro public schools.
